Working with Product Variants in PIM MARKETPROVIDER
1. Overview of Product Variants
PIM MARKETPROVIDER allows you to maintain and manage multiple variants of a product, which may include:
-
Different Models:
For example, various smartphone or laptop models offered by a manufacturer. -
Sizes and Colors:
For instance, clothing, furniture, or electronics available in multiple sizes or colors. -
Configurations and Specifications:
Products such as computers with different processors, memory, or storage capacities. -
Packaging and Bundles:
Food items with different weights or package options, or any other product with multiple packaging formats. -
Regional Variants:
Products adapted to different markets or regions, each with unique specifications or compliance requirements.
In addition, the PIM system can manage other product attributes like prices, descriptions, images, and more, depending on your business needs.
2. Setting Up Variants for a Category
- Go to Home \ Catalog \ Categories and select the final category for which you want to configure variants.
- Access the “Variants” section and click “Create Variant List.”
- Select the attributes that can have varying values (e.g., size, color, configuration), then click “Create.”
- The chosen attributes will appear in a table form. You can modify the list of variants as needed.
Only categories with configured variants (i.e., the attributes you’ve selected for variant usage) will display the “variant key” for combining or splitting items.
3. Viewing Grouped (Merged) Products
- Go to Home \ Products \ Grouped to see a list of products that have been merged as variants.
- Click on the ID list to display all products combined under that variant set.
4. Editing Product Variants
- In Home \ Products, choose the variant grouping you want to edit.
- Click on the product name and go to the “SKU List” tab (or similar).
- Click “Edit” next to the variant’s card to modify its characteristics.
- Click “Save” when you’re done.
5. Deleting a Product Variant
5.1. Moving a Variant to the Trash
- To remove a product variant, click “Move to Trash” in the product card.
- You can restore a product moved to the trash by going to Home \ Products \ Trash.
5.2. Removing a Product from the Variant Group
- If you only want to remove the product from the variant grouping (SPU) without deleting it from the system, select the item you want to remove.
- Click “Remove from Product Model (SPU)” to disconnect it from the current variant group.
6. Adding a New Variant
- To add an additional variant to an existing product group, click “Add Card (SPU)”.
- Fill in the necessary attributes for the new variant card and save.
7. Changing Variant Status
- In Home \ Products, select the grouped products whose status you want to change.
- Click on the variant grouping icon, highlight the products, and choose the appropriate status (e.g., “In progress,” “On moderation,” etc.).
8. Combining Products into Variants
There are several ways to merge products into variants:
- Creating a Product Model (SPU) directly in the interface.
- Merging products by a variant key (if both share the same key).
- Using the Import Template (excel file) for bulk merging.
8.1. Combining via Import Template
- Choose a category for the information model you want (click “Select Category”).
- Download a blank template for that category to fill in with product details.
- Upload the completed template back to the same category:
- The filled template or
- An export file previously generated by “Export Products.”
- Ensure the variant key is included in categories where variants are enabled.
9. Splitting (Unmerging) Products from Variants
- Go to Home \ Products and locate the merged products you want to separate.
- Click “Unmerge” (or “Split”) to break the link among the items.
- The cards will no longer appear together as one variant group.
Variant Key / SPU: Ensure each product card that belongs to a variant group has the same identifier (or key) so the system recognizes them as part of one set.
Status Management: You can independently manage the status of each variant (e.g., “New,” “Active,” “Archived”) to reflect its lifecycle.
Combination & Splitting: PIM MARKETPROVIDER allows you to flexibly combine or separate products as needed, e.g., when new configurations become available or certain variants are discontinued.
Trash vs. Remove from SPU: Moving a product to the trash discards it entirely, while removing it from the SPU model only detaches it from that variant set.
