DAM storage

1. Purpose of DAM

DAM (Digital Asset Management) is a system for storing and managing digital assets (images, videos, audio files, PDF documents, etc.). In PIM MARKETPROVIDER, DAM is organized into folders that help you:

  • Structure media content by products, categories, or campaigns.
  • Keep all essential files (technical drawings, instructions, marketing materials) linked directly to your product catalog.
  • Control access to media (creating public links, setting permissions, etc.).

2. DAM Folders

2.1. Product Folder (Product Card)

  • A system folder created for each product.
  • Accessible via the DAM tab in the product card.
  • Automatically linked to a specific product, enabling you to store all related media files (photos, technical specifications, etc.).
  • Useful for quickly granting access to materials associated with a single product.

2.2. Category Folder

  • A system folder created for a category in the catalog.
  • When creating a product card folder, the system automatically generates top-level category folders at corresponding nesting levels.
  • Allows you to store and group files relevant to the entire category.

2.3. User Folder

  • A user folder can be manually created in any DAM directory.
  • Not tied to a specific product or category, making it suitable for arbitrary media organization (e.g., internal projects or campaigns).

3. Working with Files in DAM

3.1. Uploading Images and Files

  • Navigate to the desired folder (product, category, or user folder) and use the “Upload” button (name may vary) to add new files.
  • In the product card’s DAM tab, you can upload files related to a specific SKU.

3.2. Exporting Folders and Files

  1. Select the files or folders you want to export.
  2. Click “Export.”
  3. Note the options to “Select All,” “Select Only Folders,” “Select Only Files,” or “Clear All.”
  4. The resulting downloaded archive contains the selected items in the same hierarchy as in DAM.
Important

Clicking “Export” without selecting anything may, in some system configurations, export all files and folders in the current DAM section.

3.3. Public Link

  1. Select the desired folder or file.
  2. Click “Share.”
  3. Specify the expiration period for the link (in days, weeks, or months).
  4. Click “Create Link.”
  5. The generated public link can be shared with anyone (within or outside PIM), allowing them to view/download the content without logging in (depending on system settings).

4. DAM Trash

4.1. Moving Items to Trash

  • When you delete files or folders from DAM, they go to the “Trash” section.
  • In the Trash, you can:
    • Restore removed objects if they were deleted by mistake.
    • Delete permanently if the files or folders are no longer needed.
Important

If you delete an object from the Trash, it is completely removed from the system without any chance of recovery.

5. Key DAM Features

  1. Organizing files into folders (product, category, user folders).
  2. Exporting/Importing folders and files (e.g., to share materials with partners).
  3. Public Links with limited validity periods.
  4. Convenient linking of files to products (SKUs) and categories.
  5. Access control (permission management, Trash for recovery).
  6. Providing Access in the Public Catalog
Recommendations

Create product folders to conveniently group media related to specific SKUs.

Use category folders to store resources at the category level (e.g., a shared image library for a category).

User folders can be used for custom structures, not tied to specific products.

Public links simplify external file sharing.

The Trash lets you restore deleted items if you change your mind.
